Kahvi #270: Kilowatts / Six Silicates

'Kilowatts is back - after his highly successfull track featured on Robot Dreams, Kilowatts returns to Kahvi with a six track ep entitled 'six silicates'.

After the pure ambiance of casimirs blake, Six Silicates turns the mood with beat driven electronica/techno, fast paced and dynamic vibes and a definite 'euphoric' theme throughout. A warm and friendly ep to welcome the summer months, listen and enjoy the sun!

Track of choice: Amethyst.

This release sees the new podcast format being used for the first time. Instead of seperate tracks, a single crossfading mix will be put out on the podcast for each release.

If you like this ep, don't forget that you can donate (any amount!) to the artist by clicking 'donate'. Its a small gesture to give something back to the artist for all his hard work in the preparation of this release. (Those who donate will get a link to the FLAC versions of the tracks). '

Kahvi #269: Casimirs Blake / Casimir Corona

'This time around we welcome a new face to the fold - Casimirs Blake.

Those of you familiar with MigloJE's ambient release 'Ayesteeyah' back at #174 may hear some similarities with this ambient extravaganza from Blake.

With a slight difference - we get the lush pads, swirling textures but also the recurring melodies which could be more akin to the epic releases by Global Communication such as 76:14.

The four tracks on offer in Casimir Corona define Blakes sound, long drawn out descriptive passages, a classic Kahvi audio treat!

Enjoy this change of pace from Casimirs Blake.'

Kahvi #268: Stud / Swordcore

'Stud makes a return to Kahvi in the shape of 'Swordcore'. A curious name for what turns out to be a distinctly non-curious release by Stud. A different Stud is apparent from the previous strange-but-great releases previously featured on Kahvi.

Perhaps this is due to the fact that Stud has been DJ'ing in and around Moscow these past years and as you can see, the tracks are aimed squarely at the dance end of 'IDM'.

Some truly epic and excellent tracks can be found in this 6 tracker - Liquid Fur and Pixeltank being two of my favourites but DM17 is probably the highlight for me from this ep. Classic analogue beats put to superb bassline and pads - its an age old recipe but one that is used to such good effect in this track. Welcome home Stud in this epic ep - one that defines the Kahvi sound. '

Kahvi #267: Das Kraftfuttermischwerk / Im Garten der Schneekugel

'I first ran into these guys while listening to spacemusic podcast - the style of the track was instantly addictive. After contacting them they kindly agreed to come up with a release for Kahvi Collective, and here is the result!

Im Garten der Scheekugel (In the garden of the snowglobe) constists of twelve tracks of interesting and provocative tracks, simplistic beats mixed in with techno/idm influences with a slightly industrial edge. The guys in question? Das Kraftfuttermischwerk, both hailing from the former east of Germany.

Check out their bio for an in depth briefing of how they came about and their inspiration. Watch out for the special remix from our very own Planet Boelex (track thirteen).

Tracks of note: Richtung Hauptbahnhof, Nachts bei mir (which actually sounds reminicient of one of my very own tracks - Inside out) and Uhlenhorst. Translations of all track names can be found in the zips. '

Kahvi #266: Aleksi Eeben / Space Age Cherokee

'At last, another release is due! and what better to take us out of the chillout zone than a release from Kahvi (almost) regular Aleksi Eeben.

this time around, six tracks of crossover from techno-electronica to acid-jazz-laced chill. Two tracks stand out for me, the epic 'The Grand opposition' which has elements of nearly every musical genre out there to the truly sublime 'Executions of Crunch Hill' - the funk melody is one of those killer melodies that ends up embedded in your head for days.

Once again, Aleksi is living up to his Kahvi labeled 'genius' moniker. Enjoy these fabulous-odd-smooth-cabbage tracks and keep em peeled, another release hits the scene shortly! '

Kahvi #265: Ambientium / Fractal Philosophy

'epic is the word that springs to mind when you listen to this masterpiece from ambientium.

hailing from the czech republic, ambientium is a talented duo who asked if kahvi would like to put out their latest album, fractal philosophy.

so, here is the end result in all its high quality, enjoyable finality. ambient beginnings with hadron era lead you into pleasing swirling textures and beat driven (solar fields styled) tracks which wouldn't be out of place in the ultimae catalogue.

tracks to watch out for are another world (part 1 and 2) and europa. welcome to kahvi, ambientium and lets see another release from you in the future! '

Kahvi #264: Lackluster / Live at Oblivion

'Its time for the first release of 2009 - after the superb Solar Fields ep, we've got a Kahvi regular. Lackluster is a familiar name to many Kahvi followers, and after the success of his live set at the Netaudio Festival London 2008 (a Lackluster set is something to experience live) I asked Esa if he could supply a recording of one of his sets, and here it is.

Live at Oblivion (Helsinki) - 14-11-08 is a prime example of what makes Lackluster great in the live gig circuit. Continuously evolving beats and grooves, all created in real time by splicing, shifting, pounding, and manipulating previous tracks, new material and 'created live' sounds. This set is 80 minutes of Lackluster at his best.

Esa is always available for live sets and has now set up an eventful page where fans can vote to have their favorite artists appearing at a gig near them. Head over and vote for your city.

At the same time, two of Esa's latest releases, compcomp and remixcomp have been put out on equaldreams. Both releases show Esa back on top form so what are you waiting for, head over and purchase yourself a copy.

Finally a new interview with Esa has been featured over at Patecreme.com. Frank, informative and a quick insight into the mind of a legend.

Enjoy this welcome to 2009!

Kahvi #263: Solar Fields / Cocoon Moon

'The Kahvi Christmas release 2008:

Finally its here and its something just a little bit special. Kahvi is proud to present the one and only Magnus Birgersson (otherwise known as Solar Fields). To coincide with the release of Mirrors Edge on a console near you which Magnus created the soundtrack for, we've got four tracks of delectible works from the fantastic back catalogue of the Swedish electronic pioneer.

We've teamed up with Ultimae to bring a four track selection - a couple of Solar Fields best known works with a couple lesser known works which even the most die hard fan may not have heard. The tracks are from the following albums:

Inherit Velocity, extract from Reflective Frequencies,
Infection_268-7, extract from Blue Moon Station,
Cocoon Moon (Glastonbury festival edit), extract from Leaving Home,

Also featured is an exclusive track - Feelings (album edit), extract from Movements which will be released on January 19th 2009.

He has also been featured in an interview at music4games in which he talks about his work and inspirations as well as compiled a va compilation of some of the best up and coming artists on ultimae in the shape of Ease Division.

Track of choice is Feelings with its deep analogue warmth and additive tones. I don't need to tell you any more about the music, its Solar Fields!

Kahvi wishes a Merry Christmas to all its listeners.

See you with more of the best free electronica in 2009! '

Kahvi #262: Coax / The Ice Garden

'Kahvi @ Christmas 2008:

Over the past few years its become a tradition to feature Coax and his piano or orchestral works. And this year is no different!

This time around we have 15 delectable tracks of pomp and splendour, orchestral (with perhaps some electronic ambient influence) wonders and simplistic piano melodies. Influences of a variety of European cultures are pretty much apparent and make for an interesting diversion from the usual electronic culture that we're surrounded with.

Allow this sublime album cleanse your palette ready for the official Kahvi Christmas release 2008 (an extremely special release from a guest artist), coming on December 22nd! (Cover photography by )

Kahvi #261: Attic Moth / Fractal Works

'Kahvi @ Christmas 2008:

Continuing the Christmas releases for 2008 is a guest release with a difference - as the artist, Attic Moth, says in his bio, he uses "Algorithmic composition, serial, stochastic and aleatoric techniques" to create textured or "fractal works".

Curious, interesting and different, Fractal Works has a winter feel, cold but warm to the touch and a gentle divergence from the usual Kahvi style.

Christmas releases 2008 continue shortly! '
