Kahvi #283: Polaski / 37 Ways

'Its been a while since the last Kahvi release - a few things have changed since 2009. Kahvi HQ is now in another country and major upheavals behind the scenes caused releases to be shelved for a while, hence the rather large gap between the Xmas release and now.

Anyway, the wait was worth it! We're back with another release by the highly acclaimed 'Polaski'.

Much akin to his previous release 'Bendii Syndrome' (one of the highest acclaimed premiers on Kahvi in recent years), here we have another five tracks for your indulgence. Similar in texture and production to Bendii, 37 ways is a smooth and velvet journey into the realms of IDM (mixed in with a touch of acoustic for good measure).

Keeping it simple is the key - and 37 ways does that with elegance and style. Enjoy this new release, the first of 2010! '

Kahvi #282: Cell / Hanging Masses

'Finally the Christmas release for 2009 is here, and I'm very happy to welcome to Kahvi - Cell.

Continuing the relationship between Kahvi and Ultimae (probably the worlds best independent ambient electronica label) Kahvi presents a 5 track ep (playing time 47 minutes!) from Cell - a sampler of some of his most well known tracks from the Fahrenheit Project albums and an exclusive track from his new album 'Hanging Masses'.

Tracklisting (including album name) follows:

Audio deepest night - Fahrenheit Project part 4
Blue embers - Fahrenheit Project part 5
Floating retention - Oxycanta
Hawaii transit - Live At Kumharas - Ibiza
Risky nap under blue tree - Hanging Masses

For more information about 'Hanging Masses' read the info.txt file in the zip and check out the fantastic artwork that Ultimae provided for this release!

PLEASE NOTE: You must not use any of the tracks in this release for any purposes (other than streaming) without contacting Kahvi and asking permission first. Due to these being previous commercial releases on Ultimae, extra clearance needs to be granted.

Track of choice is the sublime Floating Retention, but every track is a masterpiece.

Merry Christmas from Kahvi Collective and see you in 2010!

Kahvi #281: Xerxes / Christmas box

'Its been a little quiet on the Xerxes front lately. If you've been keeping an eye on his website recently, you will have found a huge amount of works available including an entirely unreleased selection.

The Xerxes Christmas box draws on three of the most recent releases - Selected Works volume 1 and 2 and Unreleased 2009. And being one of the most productive musicians on the scene, theres also a Selected works volume 3, having just appeared from the wings.

Xerxes hosts his music at Bandcamp, which encourages you to donate any amount to enable the downloading facility - if you enjoy this (relatively small) selection, why not visit xerxes-music.com and donate some cash to a worthwhile artist to get the rest of the tracks from these albums?

Anyway, as for this 'Christmas selection box', there are 16 tracks in total, which makes for 77 minutes of continuous music. And the tracks are fabulous, festive and highly enjoyable.

Moody, dramatic tracks such as lo fi beauty, to fast and fun cleopatra and jackpot. Enjoy this epic sound and keep an eye out for the final in this weeks Christmas releases tomorrow! Cover artwork by Anto. '

Kahvi #280: Url / Auxiliary tracks

'Continuing the Christmas releases is one of the most requested artists - Url (or previously known as Kolibries).

Url put together this special selection of unreleased works especially at my request, taken from his back catalogue of never before heard rarities.

Diverse throughout, theres a few surprises in amongst the usual high quality production and addictive and memorable melodies.

Track of choice is definately the truly epic 'the swap instrument' - amazing!

Christmas releases continue tomorrow. '

Kahvi #279: Coax / The Blue Enigma

'It wouldn't be Christmas without the annual Christmas release from Coax, and here it is.

Not to disappoint his legions of fans (the previous Christmas release from Coax got over 9000 downloads) this time around Coax has created a masterpiece in the form of a 12 track album diversifying into orchestral and ambient with some dark and moody textures thrown in for good measure.

Tracks of choice: from the electronic side of things, kobolt is a great piece of oddness yet coolness and on the orchestral side of things quiet minds is an awe inspiring piece of work.

Enjoy this continuation of Kahvi Christmas 2009 - more follows tomorrow! Cover photograph by Robert Halvarsson '

Kahvi #278: Alkor / Still before the sunrise

'Kicking off Christmas release week for 2009 is Kahvi regular - Alkor. "Still before the sunrise" is a dreamy escapade into a surreal sunrise approaching on the horizon. Six tracks of excellence in the usual Alkor vein, with swirling pads, solid basslines and all the addictive ingredients we're used to.

With just over 30 minutes playing time, this gentle introduction to a week of classic and strong releases will ease you into the rhythm.

Track of choice is track 6 - one day above the clouds. The kind of track to send a chill down your spine every time you give it a listen, yet oddly familiar in a way?

Kahvi #277: Acrilic Colors / Yves Klein Blue

'A while back a podcast only release was featured by Acrilic Colors. Yves Klein Blue was the result of a brainstorming session, and was only intended for release as a single long mix. I liked the podcast so much, I asked Acrilic Colors to produce an ep full release, and here we have the result.

Some of the tracks are shorter than usual but also two completely new tracks have been added to give you half an hour of excellence that we're used to as heard in his previous releases.

Some background information about the new tracks written by Acrilic:

Saturn Orange and White Chalk - 'My personal tribute to the minimalist ambient pianist Harold Budd, as background soundtrack of a poem I wrote decades ago, centred around an orange sunset while a distant airplane leaves a thin bright-white trail in the blue sky'

Icarus' Feathers - 'Taking Icarus as an emblem of mans dream of flying. Is Icarus dreaming or is it real? After a short semi-ethnic intro (daydream), Icarus starts to fly over green lands, breathing the clean air and feeling the freedom he longed for, weightless through white fluffy clouds. But after some minutes the wax begins to melt and he starts to plunge in whirls. Just a white feather on the shore, swept away by calm waters, remains of that "dream".

Cover artwork by 4T and Robert Halvarsson.

Watch out the Christmas lineup which will be approaching on December 14th!

Kahvi #276: Mikael Fyrek / I step into the advent

'It seems as though our very own Mikael Fyrek has a story to tell - at least, according to the track names from this, his latest ep.

With 'I step into the advent', Mikael has perfected the ambient/instrumental genre once again - conveying huge amounts of feeling and emotion in every track. Each being an epic in its own right, the usual excellent use of sounds and production are apparent from the start. All the track in the ep are a continuation of the previous, to create one big picture in your mind.

An audio treat for all Mikael Fyrek fans, and definately one to add to the extensive Fyrek back catalogue that we have here on Kahvi Collective. Cover artwork by skjoldbroder.dk '

Kahvi #275: Abyssal Plains / Fourth Quadrant of the Mandala

'Abyssal Plains sent me an email a while back about a new album that he'd recently completed and released via digital distribution - after some tense negotiation, I can now give you a small sampler of that very album!

This release sees 4 tracks from the sublime 'Fourth Quadrant of the Mandala' in the usual superb quality that we can expect from Abyssal Plains - but this time we hear Abyssal Plains crank it up a notch with some cool vibes in 'Dali Dream' (this releases track of choice for me) and excellent beat driven oldskool electronic melodies in 'Dragonfly'.

This one will be on my permanent playlist for some time and I think you'll agree that its a worthy addition to yours. Enjoy this great work from Abyssal Plains.

Kahvi #274: Moodix / Moodiplication

'Subtle, electronic easy listening with a hint of glitch and underground is how I would define this release from Moodix.

I don't know what it is about Bulgaria, but there seems to be a lot of great musicians (ESEM, DiE, Polygon Ring) appearing from that far off corner of Europe.

Moodix supplied Kahvi with 7 tracks of excellent electronic vibes, starting off with the moody 3L and heading off to dreamscape realms of Le Grand Bleu. I'm not sure what foreign naming theme is with the tracks but they speak for themselves.

A great release and one of the highlights of this year! '
