Kahvi #320: 4T Thieves / A moment of clarity

'Time for the Kahvi Christmas release. This year you can find a mixture of work from yours truly, with some very old tracks mixed in with some very new tracks. This release could be viewed as a progression of my techniques over the years, some tracks are better than others but I hope you enjoy them all the same!

At the beginning of this year I wrote some new tracks (A moment of clarity and A moment of power) which I put aside to release as part of a 'old vs new' album. And here is the result.

There are some huge tracks in this album, and the quality varies. The tracks are as follows:

Dreamtime - previously released on Monotonik back in 2000 but a good addition to the discography

Ethnospace - never before released. I wrote this back in 1996 using my old Amiga 1200 and a variety of hardware synths which were linked by Midi.

Jubjub - another track written back in 1996. I love the textures in this and the Roland JD800 appears a lot.

Sigmajunk - a strange track written in 1996 but features some classic old analogue retro synths.

Fillter (live) is one of the new tracks, entirely recorded live with realtime manipulation of the sounds while performing

A moment of clarity - another epic new track featuring entirely software synths
Stars in St. Petersburg I & II - recorded live while I was constructing the tracks, the entire track progression was realtime with only the base sequence created. The tracks lead on to each other. The 2nd track has a truly epic ending with a heavy acid JD800 lead sound. Please enjoy this selection of past creations and enjoy them for what they are - an archive of my work'

Kahvi #319: Global Express OSC / Symetric Dream

'Another one for the Christmas lineup this year, this time around its a new artist we've not met before on Kahvi.

Global Express OSC can put down his influences to the likes of Solar Fields @ Ultimae and you can tell when listening to his cool 6 track ep (playing time just under 50 minutes).

Hopefully we'll hear more from Global Express OSC in the New Year. Check it out! '

Kahvi #317: Alexander Chereshnev / Phonograph

'Kahvi @ Christmas 2011 continues....

No need to introduct the brilliant Alexander Chereshnev.

A regular on Kahvi over the past few years, his tracks are always full of small details, great melodies and epic feeling.

And Phonograph is no different. Ambient from the very beginning, huge sounds and vast distances throughout. Echoes of Bladerunner hit you at full force in the Nosferatu and the great addictive vibe in Snow queen has to be listened to again.

A highlight in the Kahvi release list this year for sure. Enjoy, and chill!'

Kahvi #317: Weldroid / Drain

'As part of the Christmas lineup this year, Weldroid makes a welcome appearance.

Back with his industrial beats and harsh analogue sounds, Drain is a 7 track ep in a similar style to his previous releases.

Distortion, sweeps and abstract beats make up Pullover, The New Mask and strange, atonal melodic vibes are heard in Ganymede landing.

Track of choice: Solenoid '

Kahvi #316: Pece / Retrograph EP

'The first of four releases for Christmas 2011. This small ep from Pece is a sampler of a commercial work that you can find on CD baby, Amazon, Emusic and Napster.

Short but sweet, some great mellow and tuneful tracks to while away these cold, dark nights as we approach Christmas. Three tracks of blissful sounds transport you to another place.

Tracks of choice: all, but check out Retrograph itself for a very 'air' inspired work.

Retrograph EP was composed, recorded, produced and mixed by Piotr Cieslik.

Kahvi #315: Various / Terraform

'The VA release for 2011 is finally upon us. After many months of collecting submissions, organising the playlist and mastering along with creating the cover artwork, the result is 'Terraform'.

In the theme of new planets and the creation of new worlds, the tracks evolve the struggle and desperation involved, along with the chilled out vibes of lush new valleys and beautiful landscapes.

The VA includes 30 tracks from 28 artists including some famous and familiar (and there is even one of the first new tracks from 4T Thieves included). Its a huge download (400mb for the mp3 archive, 360mb for the podcast) but I hope you'll agree that the result is worth it!

'

Kahvi #314: Sebastien Marchal / Synesthesia

'Sebastien Marchal may not be a familiar name to you, but his alter ego Workbench may be more recognisable! Branching out into a more ambient direction, Sebastien has created a truly epic ep of 7 tracks but with a playing time of over 70 minutes!

In the true spirit of Brian Eno and Steve Roach, the tracks continually evolve and build until the listener finds themselves in the depths of something quite special.

Tracks of choice: Red, and the monumental Synesthesia at 16 minutes of playtime!
Kahvi #313: Reii / Hiss me + The Places EP

'Its been a while in coming but finally here is the new ep from 'Reii'. In fact, it is two eps in one, with Hiss Me making up one part and The Places EP making up the other part.

There is 23 minutes of blissful Reii works - the usual detailed ambient passages and melodic interludes, the excellent production that has created Reii a loyal following from his preview Kahvi releases.

Check out 'Hello Machines' for some retro Future Sound of London style, but favourite tracks for this listener would be Sanctuary (epic pads!) and When you fall asleep part 1 and 2. Enjoy this ambient masterpiece from Reii and see you in the next release! '

Kahvi #312: Luntaire / Snoball EP

'Another short but sweet ep in the form of Snoball EP by guest artist Luntaire. A first for Kahvi as Luntaire comes from one of the European countries not known for its electronic artists - Romania.

Snoball is a four tracker which focuses on the minimal side of IDM, with basic melodies and leads and simplistic beats. An interesting look at influences from Romania, with my personal favourite track (and the highlight of the EP 'Arp'a'bie' which is a fiendishly addictive tune that gets into your head after one listen.
Kahvi #311: NC Thompson / Dead trees and black holes

'A new guest artist (familar perhaps to some of you from previous netlabel releases) known as 'NC Thompson'. A purely ambient four track ep, concentrating on the piano solo to bring the tracks together.

Starting with 'Listen, they whisper' - a pleasing journey built on the arpeggios of the piano with subtle harshness brought in, in the form of a pad. Next, Shades of grey is a classic ambient track in the vein of early Sven Vath and Global Communication, with swirling textures complementing the great piano lead throughout.

The city at the edge of the world and Upon white walls go hand in hand as an epic ending to this ep, Bladerunner massiveness mixed in with delicate melodies and chimes. A great ambient ep to chill you out after the previous release from Aleksi.'
